Glass Academy, a non-profit organization, supported by Saint-Gobain Glass India, offers online training modules on the manufacturing technology and applications of glass in architecture, in association with the Director of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu has signed an MOU to train and certify engineers and professionals in the glass fabrication industry.
The MOU was signed between the two bodies on Dec 16th, 2010. Present at the MOU sign-off were the Chairman of the Glass Academy board and eminent architect Thiru C N Raghavendran, Secretary & Member – Glass Academy board Mr. A.R Unnikrishnan, Commissioner of Technical Education Mr. Kumar Jayant and Principal – Central Polytechnic College, Chennai Dr. K Sundaramoorthy.
To facilitate quality workmanship in glass fabrication & installation industry, Glass Academy and State Project Co-ordination Unit, Directorate of Technical Education have proposed to set up a skill development program titled “Glass Fabrication Skill Institute” for students as well as personnel working in the Fabrication Industry.
The Glass Fabrication Skill Institute will impart fabrication skills on glass to new entrants and proposes to create a bank of skilled workforce in the industry. The curriculum has been developed by Curriculum Advisory Committee comprising experts from Industry and professors from premier institutions. Every course will have theory lectures, field demonstrations, visits to construction sites & manufacturing plants, audio-visual aids and other educational tools.
The faculty is drawn from the highly qualified core Advisory Committee, Industry Experts, Professors from renowned institutions as well as eminent consultants. The focus is on giving the best inputs. Interaction with top professionals and key personnel from the Structural Glazing industry will also be part of this course. The trainees will benefit immensely from the rich experience of all these Industry experts & advisors, and truly add value to themselves and improve their own employability.
