Facade Glazing - Thermal Insulation
Thermally insulating glass (also known as low-emissivity or Low-E glass) usually forms the inner pane of an Insulating Glass Unit (IGU). The glass has a transparent metallic coating that reflects heat from radiators or fires back into the room, rather than allowing it to escape through the windows. At the same time it allows free heat and light from the sun (known as passive solar heat gain) to pass through the glass, warming your home and further contributing to the energy-efficiency of the facades.
How does it work
Thermal insulation glass is a glass that conserves the warmth inside a building. It is particularly suited in areas that are fraught with cold temperatures.
Using thermally insulating glass for glass facades is one of the most energy-efficient ways to keep interiors comfortable.
Thermal insulation glass on glass facades is beneficial in several ways. Because it helps in naturally retaining the warmth inside the building, there can be substantial reduction towards the cost of artificial heating. Improved thermal insulation translates into fewer cold spots and drafts near windows and doors. There is also lesser condensation - the inner surface of the glass stays warmer, reducing internal condensation and prolonging the life of glass facades.
Thermal insulation glass can be combined with many other products for multi-functional glazing, leading to low-maintenance, solar control, noise reduction, aesthetics and enhanced safety & security.
Saint-Gobain Glass has a variety of thermal insulation glass types that can be perfectly suited to commercial glazing.
SGG NANO SILVER is manufactured by depositing a coating of metallic oxides by magnetically enhanced cathodic sputtering under vacuum conditions onto clear or body-tinted glass. It is this coating that gives the glass its solar control and thermal insulation properties as well as its distinctive appearance.
SGG NANO is a high performance coated glass with advanced energy-efficient solar control and thermal insulation (low e) properties. It is ideal for modern architecture which demands exterior glazing solutions with a neutral appearance.
SGG EVO is a solar control glass that is energy-efficient and has thermal insulation properties in a single glazing application. It is designed to be in conformance with the requirements of green buildings and ECBC (BEE) regulations and is the ideal choice for buildings that are going in for the LEED/IGBC rating and TERI-GRIHA rating.
SGG PLANITHERM is an advanced thermal insulation glass manufactured by coating clear or body tinted float glass with metallic oxides through a process of magnetically enhanced cathodic sputtering under vacuum conditions. It also has a neutral appearance due to very low reflection.
