The Flat Glass Division

The Saint-Gobain Group was founded in 1665 in France on the initiative of Colbert, to produce mirrors for the Royal Court of Versailles and today glass manufacture remains the main business area of the SAINT-GOBAIN.


Flat Glass continues to follow an impressive rate of international expansion. The business currently operates in 36 countries, including many emerging countries and Brazil, and has recently pursued expansion into China. Additional new float-glass lines are also under construction in India, Romania and Poland.


The Flat Glass Division brings together Saint-Gobain’s four main flat glass activities:

  • Saint-Gobain Glass - the manufacture of basic flat glass products
  • Saint-Gobain Glass Solutions - the processing and distribution of glass for the building industry
  • Saint-Gobain Sekurit - flat glass products for the automotive industry
  • the production of specialty glass, which includes products for home appliances, nuclear safety glass, fire-resistant glass and glass for electronic products
