In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability, toughened glass processor, led by Sachin Pachisia, supplied by Tata Solar, inaugurated its new Solar Plant with an impressive 800 KW capacity.

The inauguration ceremony took place on September 23rd, 2023, at Nagpur and was graced and inaugurated by Mr. Hemant Rathod, the National Head of INFINITY, ACGP Sales & Marketing, Saint-Gobain Glass, followed by a plantation drive.

The inaugural unfolded in the esteemed company of Mr. Sachin Pachisia and his family, the Saint-Gobain Team, Tata Solar team, the Electrical Engineer from MSEB Neri Area, the Branch Manager of Small Industries Development Bank of India in the Nagpur division, along with over 15 dealers and wholesalers.

Glass Build's Investment in Solar

The highlight of the event was Glass Build's investment in renewable energy through solar panels from Tata Solar, with a substantial 800 KW capacity. This solar installation is capable of generating 75,000 units of electricity every month, translating to 50% of Glass Build's energy coming from renewable sources.

This investment is a win-win situation for all the stakeholders involved. Glass Build will benefit from reduced operational costs, with a payback period of just six years. Beyond that, it's pure savings on energy bills.

Moreover, this move will significantly reduce their carbon footprint, ultimately benefiting the environment and contributing to India's net-zero carbon goal.

The environmental benefits of solar energy are only limited by imagination. Renewable sources like solar panels have an environmental impact 20 times lower than coal-powered energy per kWh produced. To put it into perspective, Glass Build's solar installation is equivalent to planting 16,000 trees and reducing 8,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

To prevent this, India aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070, in line with international agreements.

Mr. Rathod stressed that a significant portion of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint—approximately 40%—is attributed to buildings and the construction industry. Sustainable materials like glass offer various environmental benefits, including recyclability, durability, and non-toxicity. When produced using renewable sources of energy, the sustainability of glass is further improved by reducing its carbon footprint and environmental impact. To mitigate this, companies like Saint-Gobain are adopting various measures such as naked glass dispatch, solar rooftops, and rainwater harvesting to reach their net-zero carbon targets by 2050.
